BOULDER park prance & DANCEWALKING

outdoor GROOVING!

Boulder Park Prance, December 2020

During the pandemic I organized a large outdoor dance event called the Boulder Park Prance which ended up becoming one of the sweetest parts of the Boulder lockdown. I invited people to show up with their own favorite dance music and their own earbuds and enjoy the hell out of themselves, boogying in the fresh air. Our wide open lawn dance floor at the Elks Park allowed us spread out and eat space with abandon!

Having people gather and listen to different music worked surprisingly well. Everyone got to listen to exactly the right music for their mood that day… slow and mindful, playful and light, or deep and crunk. Each person could change the music as they wished to perfectly fit their body’s needs to bounce or stretch or roll or run or spazz.

The Prance has continued to this day at North Boulder Park! Visit the events page here, or go to the Boulder Park Prance Facebook Group to see all upcoming Prances. :)

Many years earlier, in 2012, I actually started a Boulder Dancewalking group after watching this hilarious viral video of a man, wearing earphones, dancing down the street in NYC with delightful abandon. I was featured on the front page of the Colorado Daily at that time, spreading the gospel of dancewalking, which is basically like going for a run, except going for a dance. :) And instead of moving down the street in the fastest and most efficient way possible (like running) you move down the street in slowest and least efficient way possible, while also having the most fun. Not to mention it’s truly a great work out!

Currently I still dancewalk around Boulder whenever I go somewhere on foot. So if you see someone with extra bounce in their step, and perhaps arms flailing about as they move down the sidewalk, it’s likely me. :)
